Dismissed IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, serving a life sentence, has approached the Gujarat High Court challenging a Jamnagar court’s order to frame charges in a 1990 custodial torture case. The sessions court quashed a previous discharge order, directing the JMFC to frame charges against Bhatt and two subordinates. The judge refused a stay, citing the case’s long duration.

A heated exchange over foul language at a food stall in Ahmedabad escalated violently when a local resident allegedly doused a daily wage labourer with hot oil.
