Auto giant wins case, towel maker barred from using ‘Volvo’ mark; Ahmedabad court orders Rs 1 lakh damages

An Ahmedabad court ruled against a local terry towel manufacturer, Volvo Terry Industries, for trademark infringement after a 30-year legal battle initiated by Swedish automotive giant AB Volvo. The court prohibited the local firm from using the ‘Volvo’ mark, including for its finance subsidiary, and ordered them to pay Rs 1 lakh in damages.
