Gujarat-origin man jailed in US for laundering $650k

Pratik Patel, a Gujarati-origin man from Florida, has been sentenced to over three years in US federal prison for laundering over $650,000 linked to fraud schemes. He acted as a “runner,” concealing illicit funds from victims conned through an overseas call center scam. Patel also operated an unlicensed money transfer business.

An Ahmedabad court ruled against a local terry towel manufacturer, Volvo Terry Industries, for trademark infringement after a 30-year legal battle initiated by Swedish automotive giant AB Volvo. The court prohibited the local firm from using the ‘Volvo’ mark, including for its finance subsidiary, and ordered them to pay Rs 1 lakh in damages.
